NAACP, Mt. Zion to show Josiah Henson doc, inspiration of ‘Uncle Tom’s Cabin’

NEW BRUNSWICK — Mt. Zion African Methodist Episcopal Church and New Brunswick Area Branch of the NAACP present an evening of fellowship and entertainment on Tuesday, June 19 at 6:30 p.m. as part of their Juneteenth celebration.

The event will show the documentary about Josiah Henson, the story that sparked the Civil War. The event will take place at the Mt. Zion church at 39 Hildebrand Way, New Brunswick. Open to all. Henson was the inspiration for Harriet Beecher Stowe’s “Uncle Tom’s Cabin.”

“It is critical to learn about other people’s culture,” said Bruce Morgan, head of the New Brunswick Branch of the NAACP. “You get to learn how much we really are the same.”

Mt. Zion church is located at 39 Hildebrand Way, New Brunswick.
