Police seek help to ID vehicle that may have seen fatal South Plainfield accident

SOUTH PLAINFIELD – Law enforcement agencies are seeking the public’s help to identify a vehicle that may have witnessed an accident that resulted in the death of a 28-year-old woman on July 4.

In a video not yet released, Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office and South Plainfield Police Department investigators describe two motorcycles traveling northbound on New Brunswick Avenue between Stelton Road and Carlton Avenue, according to a July 12 news release. They also report seeing a vehicle traveling in front of the motorcycles “that may have seen the motorcycles or witnessed the crash.” The vehicle is described as a dark color.

Multiple reports have identified the victim in the fatal July 4 accident as Jessica Montes of Piscataway.

In the July 4 accident, the motorcycle operator, Ruddy Custidio, was treated for minor injuries at JFK Medical Center in Edison. He was issued summonses for driving while intoxicated, according to police.

The initial report filed alleged that while driving on New Brunswick Avenue near Carlton Way, Custidio, 30, of Piscataway lost control of his 2016 BMW motorcycle, resulting in the death of Montes.

Police say the fatal accident occurred between 4:40-5 a.m. on July 4. They ask that anyone with information, or may have witnessed the accident to contact Prosecutor Detective Don Heck at 732-745-8842 or South Plainfield Lt. David DeLair at 908-226-7679.

According to an NJ.com report, Montes is survived by her 8-year-old son; parents Maria Martinez and Vicente Montes; cousin, Kenny Figueroa; aunt Amparo Martinez; and friends.

GoFundMe page was created to help cover the cost for funeral arrangements. As of July 16, it has raised $3,280 of the $8,000 goal.

According to her obituary, Montes graduation from Piscataway High School in 2008. She study phlebotomy and recently worked at Raritan Bay Medical Center.
