A Piscataway man who admitted killing a New Brunswick high school principal when he was illegally racing his street car was sentenced to 13 years in prison on Wednesday, Middlesex County authorities said.

The Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office said Freddy Garcia, 22, was sentenced to 10 years for vehicular homicide and three years for leaving the accident scene. He will be eligible for parole after serving 8.5 years.

Once Garcia is released, his driver’s license will be suspended for three years.

Garcia pleaded guilty in May to killing Tyrone Harrison, 49, of Somerset, after striking him with his Honda Civic on Oct. 6, 2018. At the time, Harrison was walking from the Edison train station to a relative’s house when Garcia lost control of his Civic.

Harrison was pronounced dead at the scene. The incident happened on Stelton Road near Ethel Avenue at 9:17 p.m.
